Purpose
- To boost student involvement in the EMI conference, especially in Properties of Materials.
- To highlight the latest research and the next generation of leaders in Properties of Materials.
- To provide mentoring and networking opportunities between students, research scholars, and faculty members.
- To enhance students' scientific communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Requirements
- Be enrolled as a full-time PhD student and submit an abstract as the primary contributor to an EMI mini symposium by Jan 15th, 2026. Participation in a mini symposium sponsored by the Properties of Materials Committee is suggested.
- Express interest in participating in the Properties of Materials student competition only by sending an email to Dr. Akono at [email protected] by Feb 15th, 2026.
- Upon notification of acceptance of the abstract, register for the EMI conference.
- Attend the EMI conference and present the abstract.
Deadlines
- Jan 15th, 2026: Submit an abstract to the EMI conference.
- Feb 15th, 2026: Express interest to participate in the Properties of Materials student competition.
- March 31st, 2026: Submit full-length three-page paper and abstract acceptance notification.
Prizes
- One winner and one runner-up will be selected. They will receive a certificate and be named as the Properties of Materials competition winner.
Process
- Student papers will be reviewed by a panel of three judges chosen from the Properties of Materials Committee, and the Top five papers will be pre-selected; the decision will be communicated by May 15th, 2026.
- The top five papers will be presented during a special session at EMI 2026.
- The final winner and runner-up will be selected based on their paper and the ten-minute oral presentation.
